Nagios & MySQL Betas available and Proving Grounds now public

We have two new beta JumpBoxes available in the Proving Grounds:

	Nagios is a network monitoring system that watches your network and notifies you of any problems. The JumpBox makes it really easy to get it running. Due to the nature of Nagios, configuration still requires additional work, but the JumpBox gives you a good jump start on the process.
	MySQL is the worlds most popular Open Source database. It's a core component of many systems and the JumpBox for MySQL provides a very quick way to get a MySQL instance complete with PHPMyAdmin running.

Both are based on the JumpBox platform 1.1 Beta and include all the great new enhancements described here.

The other exciting news is that we've opened the Proving Grounds up to the public. You'll notice there's now a link at the upper right corner of this site which takes you to our testing community. The Proving Grounds is the place where we make pre-release JumpBoxes available for testing before moving them to production status. We've got a ton of interesting candidates in the pipeline so be sure to check out the Proving Grounds for the latest and greatest.

BPE alpha 3.0.1 build 1276

Well it has certainly been awhile since our last release, yet we are happy to announce BPE alpha 3.0.1 build 1276.

Details of this Release:

Blogging feature implemented for users (utilizes xmlrpc -> wpmu)
New landing/central dashboard page for users.
Addition of first of many top come badges
Many many minor bug fixes, most notably the date picker on the party creator

Next release should take bestpartyever into full fledged “beta” status.. oh yeah. But more importantly the vendor/business system will be in.

We crossed a big milestone today with the release of 6 new production JumpBoxes.

With the addition of these applications there are now 20 different applications available as production JumpBoxes.

We have our first graduates of the Proving Grounds:

are all now battle-tested and available for production use and purchase. Thanks to all the Proving Grounds members who submitted feedback and helped us work out the kinks in these apps.

We also have seven new applications that just entered the Proving Grounds:

We've made some of the pre-release apps available to the public for download but to get beta keys to unlock the pre-release apps you'll need to belong to the Proving Grounds. And there will always be a few apps that we keep exclusive to PG members.

We're also running a promotion right now - all JumpBox Basic Registrations are $24.99 until noon MST on December 14th, so if you were on the fence about registering yours, now's the time.

Lastly, we're doing a webinar with the folks from Virtual Iron in an hour (11am PST today). The presentation will be captured and available online afterwards but if you'd like to participate and ask questions, tune in here.

Drupal, SugarCRM, Wordpress and PunBB updated

We just released new JumpBoxes for Drupal 5.3, SugarCRM 4.5.1h, Wordpress 2.3.1 and PunBB 1.2.16. In all cases the main changes in the apps revolve around security and general bug fixes so upgrading is recommended for all users.

As much as I am tired of hearing “web2.0″ thrown around I am a bit more exhausted to hear the drone about web2.0 companies not having a revenue model to speak of.

Release notes for Build 1164:

These release was all about the new checklists. Users can now track and save multiple to-do item lists.

Quite a few other smaller fixes went in as well.

New Party To’do lists
Bug fixes to guestlists
Badges for user to paste on other sites…
The To-do lists utilize the hcal microformat, which will come in handy later for doing exports.

We will likely do a small release early next week to address a few CSS issues and the like. We plan to release v3.0.1 mid December which will deploy the new Vendor platform.

Eight new JumpBoxes available with the launch of the Proving Grounds

We just launched the JumpBox Proving Grounds, our new private community for JumpBox users where you can get early access to beta and experimental JumpBoxes. Eight new beta JumpBoxes are currently available for free through the Proving Grounds, but you have to be a member to get them so request your invitation today.

We created the Proving Grounds so that we can more rapidly release new JumpBoxes and to give us a bit of a playground where we can release things that are more experimental in nature. This will allow us to release JumpBoxes for applications that look promising, but may not be quite mature enough that we're prepared to support them as production quality.

Our goal is to place new JumpBoxes in the Proving Grounds for a month or so and then have them graduate to become fully supported members of the JumpBox family. A big part of being a member of the Proving Grounds is giving us feedback on what does and doesn't work with these JumpBoxes.

Also, to celebrate the launch of the Proving Grounds we're running a $29.99 special on Basic registrations for a limited time.

Here's what's available in the Proving Grounds today, and we have a number of other apps coming over the next few weeks.

The movie was awesome, but this post is about a milestone we reached with our party ideas and party planning website bestypartyever.com.

As of today, 25 days since we launched the ALL new (v3) website, our 300th user just registered. The velocity of user sign-ups is increasing . I think it took over 15 days to get the first 100. While of course we are aiming for 100k users in the next few months, we’ll take the first 300 and be dang happy about it.

Takeaway:

Build it and they will come.. Um, No.
