Local East Valley Startup Takes Second Round of Funding

Local startup Infusionsoft took $7.9 million in series B funding to fund it’s next stage of growth. The software company is located in Gilbert and continues to expand. Infusionsoft, congratulations on another round. Everyone else, this is proof that things in Phoenix do get funded and despite a down economy money is still out there.

Circuit City Has Mass Phoenix Exodus - Closing All Stores

Circuit City has been in Phoenix for some time, in fact just this year they opened a new store in Queen Creek. Retail is hurting and it is to be expected in this economy that we might see some retailers shutting down under performing stores, but pulling your entire operations out of a major city. Ouch. That’s right, Circuit City is bailing on Phoenix. It’s not just Phoenix, it’s 20% of their stores. So anyone plan on going to the fire sales over the next few weeks?

Could/should Phoenix do something like this?

I know quite a few shop owners in town.. and the seeming scarcity of quality labor is a topic that comes up a lot. Check out what startups in Boulder CO did.

This blog is co-authored by half a dozen cats that took it upon themselves to make something happen. We want to shine some light on the rad people and companies in the Valley that are doing the cool things in web and technology.

We need your help though. For as well as our social networks work, Phoenix is so freakin expansive that sometimes we don’t know who is working nextdoor, let alone what rad projects they are cookin’. Here’s where you come in.

Suggest some topics/people/companies we should cover, you can write the story if you are so inclined. If you are more into watercooler rumors, share your gossip here.

This shouldn’t be a one pony show, we want to encourage everyone to participate, feel like contributing? do it.

Will the awesome people please stand up and be counted.

Get the Fuck Out of Dodge

Welcome to Phoenix home of the wild wild West so to speak… As such, I think it’s important we police ourselves when possible and not always wait for the sheriff to clean up the riff raff… Now that you are thinking what the hell is this moron babbling about….

It seems we have a local villain here in the valley. The most vile kind. The sort that steals the hard work of others and calls it their own. Matt Brett a Canadian designer created this site which was stolen and recolored here. The original artist has something to say about it here. Judge for yourself.

So villain you have been spotted. You either need to explain yourself our GET THE FUCK OUT OF DODGE! A simple apology to the original copyright owner would go a long way.

EDIT: It seems that the villain has taken down the offending page and replaced it. This is a good start. Public apology would almost make the situation right. Come on villain do the right thing.

EDIT 2: The villain has publicly apologized and I think he should be commended for doing so. It takes a bigger man to admit a mistake than one to deny it.

Google Phoenix Tanks

Google seems to be having trouble making their Phoenix operations work. Google made the decision to put their campus on the Arizona State University campus nearly two and half years ago. They made a play to employ professors and control all recruiting out of the engineering department of the university. Clearly, Google was in it for Google, not the university and not the city. Ask yourself, have you seen Google at local technical events? Have you seen them contribute anything beyond job solications? Google while we love you, we are disappointed you didn’t make it work. I think your approach here was all wrong. The next time you come into a community remember you recieve in accordance to what you give.

DateDesigner, one of the first companies to come out of the Gangplank incubator, is looking for people to test out it’s new web app.

DateDesigner is a way to create (from scratch) and/or browse through pre-designed dates to take the hassle and repitition out of dating. Apparently it’s not that easy to put together the right date, so if you would like some help DateDesigner aims to help you.
